The USA 2024 T20 World Cup squad named with Corey Anderson

Corey Anderson, who played the 2015 ODI World Cup and the 2014 and 2016 T20 World Cups for New Zealand, will now play for the USA at the 2024 T20 World Cup in June, which they will co-host with the West Indies after being named in the 15-man squad on Friday.

Ali Khan, who hasn't played a T20I since July 2022, has also been included, as has Shayan Jahangir. Gajanand Singh and Usman Rafiq make way for them from the squad that beat Canada 4-0 in a five-match T20I series in April. Gajanand had scored just one run in two matches against Canada, while Rafiq conceded 24 runs in two overs in his only match of the series.

Monank Patel and Aaron Jones, the captain and vice-captain for the series against Canada, have been retained.

Against Canada, Monank was USA's top scorer with 120 runs in three innings at a strike rate of just under 170, while Andries Gous and Steven Taylor passed the 100-run mark, Nitish Kumar scored a 38-ball 64 in his only innings, and Anderson and Harmeet Singh added handy runs in their two innings. With the ball, Harmeet and Shadley Van Schalkwyk took six wickets apiece, with Noshthush Kenjige and Saurabh Netravalkar also among the wickets.

Ali Khan, who has experience of playing in T20 leagues around the world - including the CPL, PSL and ILT20 - hasn't played a lot of T20I cricket, just six to go with 15 ODI appearances. His experience would have been a factor in the selectors' decision to include him at this stage.

Jahangir, who began his career in representative cricket for his native Pakistan, has played 12 ODIs for the USA, the last of which came in July last year.

Milind Kumar, a former Delhi batsman who finished as the top run-scorer in the 2018-19 Ranji Trophy - India's premier first-class tournament - representing Sikkim, is also a notable name in the squad.

On June 1, the USA will play Canada in Dallas in the opening match of the World Cup.
