Ben Stokes Sidelined for Three Months Due to Hamstring Injury

Ben Stokes is set to miss at least three months of cricket after tearing his left hamstring during the third Test against New Zealand in Hamilton, where England secured a 2-1 series victory. The England captain's absence was confirmed earlier this week when he was left out of the squad for the 2025 Champions Trophy. 

Stokes, who last played ODI cricket in the 2023 World Cup, has struggled with recurring injuries. Following knee surgery in late 2023, he faced a lengthy rehabilitation period before returning to action. Earlier this year, a similar hamstring injury sidelined him for the latter part of England’s summer. Despite returning, he managed his bowling workload carefully and even skipped IPL 2024 to focus on his fitness. 

Ahead of the Hamilton Test, Stokes expressed optimism about his physical condition, stating he had regained confidence in handling intense spells. However, his extensive bowling effort in the match exacerbated his injury. 

The injury rules Stokes out of upcoming tournaments, including the Hundred, which begins on January 9. England will have to navigate a crucial phase without their talismanic leader as he undergoes recovery and rehabilitation.
