Unicorns Edge MI New York in Last-Ball Thriller

In a nail-biting match at Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas, Texas, the Unicorns clinched a three-run victory over MI New York. After choosing to bat first, the Unicorns struggled initially, with Noshthush Kenjige dismissing Finn Allen and Trent Boult taking out Sanjay Krishnamurthi early. The situation worsened as Josh Inglis and Matthew Short fell during the Powerplay, leaving the team at 33-5 in seven overs after Sherfane Rutherford was run out.

Skipper Corey Anderson (59) and Hassan Khan (44) stabilised the innings with a crucial 87-run partnership. MI New York's bowlers, including Sunny Patel and Trent Boult, faced aggressive batting, especially during the middle overs. The Unicorns capitalised, with Rashid Khan's 19th over yielding 15 runs.

MI New York's chase began shakily, losing Ruben Clinton in the second over. Dewald Brevis (56) played a standout innings, highlighted by a massive six off Pat Cummins. Nicholas Pooran supported Brevis in a 77-run partnership. However, after Brevis's dismissal, Pooran struggled to find his rhythm and was eventually bowled by Matthew Short. Kieron Pollard was also dismissed by Broady Couch, and Romario Shepherd followed soon after.

As the match headed into the final overs, Pat Cummins delivered an excellent 19th over, conceding only five runs. Needing 20 runs from the last over, Rashid Khan and debutant Heath Richards almost pulled off a miraculous win for MI New York. However, Haris Rauf's full delivery on the last ball sealed the victory for the Unicorns, as Richards missed his shot.

This defeat leaves defending champions MI New York on the brink of elimination, with one game remaining against the Los Angeles Knight Riders. Meanwhile, the Unicorns will face the bottom-placed Seattle Orcas and table-toppers Washington Freedom to conclude their league stage.
