The upturn

Chennai Super Kings 167/9 (Jadeja 43, Chahar 3/23, Harshal 3/24) beat Punjab Kings 139/9 (Prabhsimran 30, Jadeja 3/20, Deshpande 2/35) by 28 runs.

The thing about defending small totals is that everyone has to be perfect. CSK had a bowler who was nailing his lengths. He was always looking to hit the deck and that was where all the vagaries came from, whether it was extra bounce, or the ball holding up, or staying low. Deshpande's upright seam position also helped him to get sideways movement. The Rossow ball nipped in against the angle, leaving his stumps splayed before he could even react. Beaten for pace and movement.

But overs five, six, and seven cost CSK as Shashank Singh and Prabhsimran Singh went on the attack. They played breathtaking shots. A ramp over the third man for six when there was no room and the ball was rising. An inside-out drive over the covers for four when the ball was on the leg stump or even outside the leg stump.
