The mess

Like Head, Jaiswal played a low full toss as he tried to ramp. Parag got the momentum back two balls later with a six. In the 16th over, little things happened that in retrospect look like big things. Parag hit a full-tossed delivery off Cummins straight to short fine leg. Then he got too close to a half-volley and holed out to long-on. SRH had a wicket. They had a rare over without a boundary.

Powell, however, calmed RR's nerves with 15 in the 17th over, bowled by Marco Jansen. Hetmyer began the 18th over with a huge six. Two fours later, he miscued a full toss and the game refused to die. Dhruv Jurel drove a leg-side half-volley from Cummins straight down the throat of the deep square-leg, and Cummins then bowled three consecutive fours to Powell, who hit the last one for six to tilt the balance back in his favour.

After Ashwin gave the strike to Powell, he took advantage of the fielding penalty to smash a boundary through the vacant fine-leg region. Poor throwing from the outfield allowed Powell to take three pairs. One more and it would be over. Perhaps Powell was expecting something close to a yorker, as Bhuvneshwar had been nailing them. The full toss took him by surprise and handed RR their first chase defeat of the IPL.
