The last kick never comes

Chennai Super Kings 145/5 beat Rajasthan Royals 141/1

Even to reach 160, they would need two wickets a ball for the last six overs, having reached 89 for 2 in 14 overs when the spinners departed. The Royals were hoping to cash in on their pace, but just as they were about to go hard, they handed Simarjeet another wicket: Samson was caught at mid-off. Once again, Royals were pushed back.

Royals never got the big overs as Deshpande and Thakur stuck to their plans in the death overs. Only Parag's 47 off 35 took them to 141, 23 short of the lowest total successfully defended in this IPL. Royals attacked with just 30 balls in their innings, the sixth lowest in a non-all-out innings this season when chasing a target.
