Slater collapsed after being denied bail

After being denied bail on more than a dozen charges, including stalking, former Test cricketer Michael Slater reportedly collapsed in an Australian court on Tuesday.

According to local media reports, the accused, a 54-year-old television commentator and former batsman, had to be assisted by court staff to stand up after collapsing on the floor when his bail application was denied by a Queensland magistrate.

The charges against him include domestic violence, common assault, and unlawful stalking.

The police have accused him of sending unwanted text messages and making intimidating phone calls over the past six months.

According to ABC News, the court heard that Slater has mental health conditions that can lead to impulsive and reckless behaviour.

Slater, who played 74 Test matches from 1993-2001 and scored over 5,000 runs for Australia, including 14 centuries, is scheduled to appear in court again at the end of May.

He retired from all cricket in 2004 after playing 42 ODIs.
