Panthers Secure Final Spot in Champions Cup
The Panthers cruised into the Champions Cup final, defeating Markhors by seven wickets, thanks to impressive performances from Mohammad Hasnain and Saim Ayub. This victory marked the first successful run chase of the tournament.
Markhors chose to bat first after winning the toss but had a shaky start when Ali Raza dismissed Haseebullah Khan in the second over. Mohammad Hasnain then delivered a devastating blow by removing Fakhar Zaman, Kamran Ghulam, and Mohammad Rizwan, leaving Markhors reeling at 25 for 4 by the seventh over.
Salman Agha and Iftikhar Ahmed attempted to steady the innings, putting together a 77-run partnership for the fifth wicket. However, once Iftikhar was run out, Markhors struggled again and were bowled out for 137 in 36 overs. Saim Ayub, typically known for his batting, took the spotlight with the ball, claiming his first five-wicket haul in senior cricket, finishing with figures of 5 for 24.
In response, Panthers lost Azan Awais early, but Ayub kept the chase on course with a steady 33 off 36 balls. Despite losing two quick wickets, Usman Khan powered Panthers to victory with an explosive 54 not out from just 26 deliveries, sealing the win in the 24th over.
Markhors will now face the winner of the first eliminator between Stallions and Lions on Friday.
