In a decisive victory, Ruturaj and Deshpande starred for CSK

Despite not being able to defend 210 in their previous home match against Lucknow Super Giants, Chennai Super Kings successfully backed their method. The Sunrisers Hyderabad's drought in Chennai continued as they were unable to overcome CSK at Chepauk, despite batting in favourable conditions.

CSK displayed a lack of urgency in the first two overs and the powerplay, suggesting a lack of confidence in their ability to win the toss. This resulted in a cautious approach, with captain Ruturaj Gaikwad scoring around 100 and Shivam Dube pushing them over 200. The situation changed significantly in the second innings. CSK must have concluded that they had been undone by excessive dew, a notable innings from Marcus Stoinis, and some ordinary fielding from themselves the other night. These are events that will not be repeated every night.

On Sunday, the team demonstrated resilience by overcoming the challenges presented by SRH. Tushar Deshpande's performance in the powerplay, which resulted in the removal of three SRH batsmen, was instrumental in this outcome. Both Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma were able to find the sweeper on the offside. The victory propelled CSK from sixth to third on the points table, tied on points with SRH and LSG. SRH must address questions regarding their chasing methods. While they have only lost one match when defending, they have only won one when chasing. Their run rate when chasing falls three points from their 11.74 in the first innings, and the average comes down from nearly 40 to 23.
