Imran Khwaja Reappointed as ICC Deputy Chair

Imran Khwaja has been reappointed as the ICC deputy chair, extending his role from December 1, 2024, coinciding with Jay Shah’s start as ICC chair. Khwaja, who joined the ICC Board in 2008, has served as deputy chair since 2017, including a stint as interim chair following Shashank Manohar's departure in July 2020. Later that year, he ran for the chair position against Greg Barclay, who won after a close two-round election.

This past July, Khwaja secured re-election as one of the three Associate member directors on the ICC Board at the annual general meeting in Colombo. The following month, Jay Shah was appointed as chair, unopposed, succeeding Barclay, who completed two of his three permitted terms. At 35, Shah is the youngest to lead the ICC and the fifth Indian to hold the post.

Additionally, the ICC has approved a tenure adjustment for the chair and board directors, now allowing two terms of three years each instead of three two-year terms.
