Gurinder Sandhu Joins Melbourne Renegades for Big Bash Season 14
The Melbourne Renegades have strengthened their bowling lineup by bringing in Gurinder Sandhu, a seasoned pace bowler from Queensland, for the upcoming KFC BBL|14. This move marks Sandhu's transition to his third Big Bash League team, following an 11-year stint with Sydney Thunder, whose contract with him concluded at the end of last season.
Sandhu expressed enthusiasm about the change, noting the opportunity to learn from new coaches and teammates with diverse skills and perspectives. He conveyed his eagerness for the upcoming season, stating that he's excited to connect with the team, work diligently, and make the most of the new role he's been assigned.
Meanwhile, Sydney Thunder has reinforced its pace bowling options by acquiring Wes Agar from Adelaide Strikers. Agar joins a robust group that includes Daniel Sams, Liam Hatcher, Nathan McAndrew, and promising young bowler Will Salzmann.
The current Melbourne Renegades BBL|14 squad includes players such as Josh Brown, Harry Dixon, Jake Fraser-McGurk, Mackenzie Harvey, Nathan Lyon, Kane Richardson, Tom Rogers, Will Sutherland, Jon Wells, and Adam Zampa, along with the newly added Sandhu.
Last season, Sandhu took one wicket in four matches for the Thunder, bringing his total to 71 wickets at an average of 25.64 over 70 matches. He also played three games for the Sydney Sixers in BBL|10, taking two wickets. One of his standout performances for the Thunder was during BBL|11, where he achieved a hat-trick against Perth Scorchers, recording his career-best T20 figures of 4-22.
At 31, Sandhu has had a successful few years, performing well in both red and white ball formats for Queensland. His recent achievements include an impressive 5-27 against New Zealand A for Australia A in Mackay last September.
