Finding a fight in Tilak, Wadhera

Mumbai's resurgence, measured at first - especially when R Ashwin took four wicketless overs for 31 - and then with increasing assurance, was entirely down to two of the younger men in their ranks. Tilak led the way with a fighting 65 off 45, bringing up his fifty with a six that also made him the third-youngest player to reach 1000 IPL runs at the age of 21 years and 166 days.

But it was the lesser-known Wadhera, playing his first match of the season, who provided the impetus that was needed in this exceptionally high-scoring edition. His 24-ball 49 included three fours and four sixes - two of them consecutive off Chahal, who thought he had trapped Tilak lbw on 55 off a reverse-sweep.

DRS, however, showed the ball to be out, and the pair celebrated the reprieve with the panache of a century, which spoke volumes about the importance of their stand. As it turned out, their alliance would end on 99 off 54 balls when Boult was recalled to attack for his final over. His first delivery was a slower bouncer that Wadhera could only lob to backward point.
