Chandika Hathurusinghe Dismissed for Misconduct
The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has officially terminated Chandika Hathurusinghe's role as head coach, just two days after suspending him. His dismissal was due to allegations of misconduct and violations of his contract.
BCB president Faruque Ahmed revealed that Hathurusinghe was accused of physically assaulting a player and exceeding the number of leaves permitted by his contract. The board issued a show-cause notice, asking for his explanation regarding these issues. After Hathurusinghe submitted his response the following day, an emergency meeting was held to assess the situation.
In a statement, the BCB explained that Hathurusinghe's explanation was found to be unsatisfactory, and his actions were judged as misconduct and negligence. As a result, his contract was terminated immediately.
This marks the end of Hathurusinghe’s second tenure as Bangladesh’s coach, despite his contract initially being set to run until January 2023. While his time included significant achievements, such as a historic Test series win in Pakistan, the team’s performances in the 2023 ODI World Cup and the 2024 T20 World Cup were disappointing.
Phil Simmons has been named as Hathurusinghe's replacement, with a contract that runs through to the Champions Trophy in February 2025.
