Cameron Bancroft Shines in Gloucestershire's Victory Over Surrey

Western Australian cricketer Cameron Bancroft showcased his strong county form by scoring a brilliant century, leading Gloucestershire to a 37-run victory over Surrey in a 50-over match at The Oval. This marks the team's first win in the English One-Day Cup campaign.

Bancroft, the opener, anchored Gloucestershire's innings with his fifth List A century, scoring 100 off 109 balls, including eight fours and a six. Contributions from Miles Hammond, who scored 51, and captain Jack Taylor, with 44, helped the team reach a total of 301. Bancroft's previous List A centuries include two for Durham and two for Western Australia.

Reflecting on the game, Bancroft said, "We had to be smart in our approach, and reaching 300 was satisfying. Although I think we could have added another 20 or 30 runs, it was a much-improved performance."

In Surrey's response, Ryan Patel top-scored with 87, and wicketkeeper Josh Blake added 50, but the team fell short, being dismissed for 264. Matt Taylor took four wickets for 44 runs.

This century is Bancroft's fourth of the season for Gloucestershire, having already scored three in the County Championship's second division. With 745 runs at an average of 57.30 in the four-day competition, Bancroft is currently the leading Australian run-scorer.
