Bright impact from Sohi and Bhagwan

While the spinners did plenty of damage, there was plenty of support from both Ishwarjot Sohi and Uday Bhagwan. On the Hong Kong tour, Sohi seemed to prefer bowling with the older ball rather than opening the bowling, and that was certainly the case here as he came in at second change and was effective throughout his eight overs.

Bhagwan gave Canada their first breakthrough with a short ball outside off stump which opener Sheikh tried to hit over third man but couldn't get enough height. A comfortable catch was taken by Navneet Dhaliwal. Sohi took the crucial wicket of Rohit Paudel, bowling him with a short delivery which the Nepal captain tried to flick, but only managed a leading edge which Thaker swallowed at backward point.

Bhagwan also took crucial wickets of Aarif Sheikh, 38 off 50, and Sompal Kami, 27 off 23. Both looked dangerous at the crease. Bhagwan was particularly energised by the wicket of Sheikh, although he was warned by the umpire for an over-enthusiastic dismissal.

Bhagwan and Sohi finished with impressive figures of 16-1-70-5 as the older-ball pace duo.
