Brendon McCullum Appointed England's White-Ball Coach

Brendon McCullum has been named England’s new white-ball coach, adding to his role as Test coach. The ECB has signed McCullum to a three-year contract as part of a restructure, with his dual duties starting in January 2025. He will lead England through the 2027 World Cup in South Africa and the Ashes series that same year.

Marcus Trescothick will remain interim white-ball coach for the Caribbean tour in November, before McCullum takes over both teams. His appointment follows Matthew Mott's dismissal after England’s poor performance in defending their World Cup titles.

Initially hesitant to coach the white-ball side, McCullum embraced the expanded role after his success with the Test team. He aims to bring his aggressive "Bazball" philosophy to the limited-overs formats, working closely with captain Jos Buttler.

McCullum is the first England coach to oversee both formats since Chris Silverwood. With a less congested schedule, the ECB believes McCullum can manage both teams effectively. His leadership is expected to benefit emerging talents like Harry Brook and Gus Atkinson.

McCullum expressed excitement about developing England’s talent and fostering a winning environment across all formats. He will return to New Zealand briefly after the Sri Lanka series before rejoining the Test squad for the Pakistan tour in October.
