Bangladesh's Players Prepare for Tough India Tour

As Bangladesh seeks to build on their recent improvements in Test cricket away from home, Shakib Al Hasan, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, and Mushfiqur Rahim are expected to play pivotal roles. While Bangladesh has only won eight of 67 away Tests, four of those victories have come since 2021, including two memorable wins.

Head coach Chandika Hathurusinghe shared that the win in Pakistan has boosted the team's confidence heading into the series against India. He noted that it wasn't just the outcome but also the team's resilience in challenging situations that gave them belief. "We were behind in both Test matches but fought back, with contributions from different players at key moments," Hathurusinghe said.

Bangladesh's recent success has been fueled by both emerging players and veterans continuing to perform. Hathurusinghe highlighted Shakib’s all-round abilities as a major asset, providing balance to the team whether they opt for extra bowlers or batters. He added that Shakib brings not only experience but also adaptability, which strengthens the squad.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz, whom Hathurusinghe described as the most improved Bangladesh cricketer in the last five to six years, is poised to take over from Shakib when needed. Hathurusinghe praised Mehidy’s development as a batsman, alongside his consistently strong bowling and outstanding fielding skills.

The challenge of facing India’s spin duo, R Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja, is crucial for any touring side, and Bangladesh will be counting on Mushfiqur Rahim. Known for his meticulous preparation, Mushfiqur has been practicing different sweep shots against spinners. Hathurusinghe revealed that Mushfiqur reminded him of his 55 batting average in India and compared his level of preparation to that of Sachin Tendulkar, calling him a "thorough professional."

While Bangladesh has lost all three previous Tests in India, including two by an innings, Hathurusinghe believes this time they will pose a stronger challenge. He considers this squad to be the most well-rounded Bangladesh team he has worked with, featuring depth in both fast bowling and spin, as well as solid batting options.

Two of Bangladesh's spinners, Shakib and Mehidy, are capable of contributing with the bat, while their wicketkeepers, Litton Das and Mushfiqur, are also key batsmen. Hathurusinghe expressed confidence in the team’s balance and ability to compete strongly in the series.
