Bangladesh Wins Against Pakistan

Bangladesh secured a historic win against Pakistan, defeating them by ten wickets after a spirited bowling performance on the fifth day. This victory, which saw Pakistan skittled for just 146 in their second innings, marked Bangladesh's first-ever Test win against Pakistan and only their third away Test win in the last seven years.

Mushfiqur Rahim’s impressive knock of 191 had set the stage on the fourth day, instilling confidence in the Bangladesh camp. By the final day, the team’s bowlers capitalised on this momentum to complete the job. Pakistan, who have now gone nine home Tests without a win since February 2021, were unable to resist Bangladesh’s relentless attack.

After Pakistan resumed play, Bangladesh’s fast bowlers quickly removed three of the top four batsmen. The spin duo of Shakib Al Hasan and Mehidy Hasan Miraz then took over, exploiting the increased turn and uneven bounce to claim the remaining seven wickets.

Young pacer Nahid Rana, bowling with pace nearing 150kmph, delivered a crucial blow by dismissing Babar Azam, while Shakib and Mehidy consistently troubled the Pakistani batsmen with their accurate and varied deliveries. Pakistan’s efforts were led by Mohammad Rizwan, who scored 51, but they could only set a target of 30 runs for Bangladesh, which was easily chased down in just 6.3 overs.

In the first session of the day, Bangladesh’s fast bowlers set the tone, with Hasan Mahmud dismissing Shan Masood early. Although Babar Azam had a brief moment of reprieve after being dropped by Litton Das, he couldn't capitalise and was eventually bowled by Nahid, sparking a collapse.

Rizwan tried to counterattack before lunch, but wickets continued to fall around him. Saud Shakeel was stumped for a duck while attempting to neutralise Shakib’s spin, and Abdullah Shafique threw his wicket away with a reckless shot just before the break. Mehidy further dented Pakistan’s hopes by dismissing Agha Salman and Shaheen Shah Afridi, leaving Pakistan at 111 for 7, still trailing by six runs.

Although Pakistan managed to take a slim lead, Rizwan’s aggressive approach led to his downfall when he chopped onto his stumps against Mehidy. Mehidy then wrapped up the innings by dismissing Mohammad Ali, leaving Bangladesh with a simple target.

Openers Zakir Hasan and Shadman Islam ensured there were no hiccups in the chase, with Zakir hitting three boundaries, including the winning runs with a sweep to the fine-leg boundary, sealing a memorable victory for Bangladesh.
