Ashwin’s All-Round Brilliance Leads India to Commanding Win
Ravichandran Ashwin's dominant performance helped India secure a massive 280-run win over Bangladesh in the first Test in Chennai.
Ashwin claimed six wickets for 88 runs in Bangladesh's second innings, sealing the victory early on day four. Bangladesh, resuming the day at 158-4 and chasing an improbable 515 for victory, was never in a position to challenge India's lead, as Ashwin took three key wickets among the six that fell.
In addition to his bowling heroics, Ashwin contributed significantly with the bat, scoring 116 in India’s first innings. This marked the third instance in his Test career where he has scored a century and taken five or more wickets in a single match, with the previous two achievements coming against the West Indies.
On the final day, Bangladesh could only add 76 runs before losing their last six wickets. Ravindra Jadeja provided support from the other end, picking up the remaining three wickets, including the crucial dismissal of Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto, who top-scored with 82 after starting the day on 51 not out.
With this victory, India now leads the two-match Test series 1-0, with the second Test scheduled to begin in Kanpur on Friday.
