American openers Steven Taylor and Monank Patel prevented an early Canadian breakthrough by capitalising on wayward deliveries, putting on 47 runs for the first wicket. In a small chase, a solid opening partnership was crucial in setting up the rest of the batting.
Rishiv Joshi and Dilon Heyliger were the most expensive bowlers, conceding 57 runs in 6.3 overs. Heyliger took two wickets, but the U.S. was well on course for victory. Conditions for batting improved in the second half of the innings. Full credit goes to the American batters for keeping Canada on the outside.
Uday Bhagwan made his T20I debut and bowled two overs for 12 runs.
Pargat Singh deserves a mention for his excellent fielding, taking a diving catch at short fine leg to dismiss Taylor off Kirton’s bowling.
Ultimately, there were not enough runs for the bowlers to apply significant pressure.
