SRH crushes LSG and knocks out MI as Abhishek, Bhuvneshwar leads the way

Sunrisers Hyderabad crushed Lucknow Super Giants, first with the new ball and then sensationally chasing down 166 in just 9.4 overs - the highest 10-over total in a T20. The resounding victory lifted them to third on the points table with 14 points from 12 matches, and also gave them a much-needed boost to their net run rate. The chase was so brutal that LSG didn't even bother with their impact player.

Much will rightly be made of the explosive batting of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma, who reached their fifties in 16 and 19 balls respectively, bringing up a century between them in the powerplay for the second time in this IPL, both times the highest powerplay scores in T20 cricket.

However, it was with the ball that SRH cruised to victory. Bhuvneshwar Kumar led the way with figures of 4-0-12-2, conceding only singles as he bowled out LSG's top order for 66 in the first 11.2 overs. The top order's lack of enterprise was underlined by a 52-ball 99-run stand between Ayush Badoni and Nicholas Pooran, which ultimately proved to be hopelessly inadequate.

Mumbai Indians were collateral damage on the night, knocked out of playoff contention and the first team to be officially eliminated from the 2024 IPL.
