Mumbai Indians 174/3 beat Sunrisers Hyderabad 173/8 by 7 wickets
After three overs in which nine runs were scored, Suryakumar decided enough was enough. He took on Cummins first before reserving special treatment for Jansen. He took 4, 4, 6 in the seventh over before hitting Jansen over fine leg for a flat six as overs six and seven yielded a combined 38 runs. From 4 off 7, Suryakumar moved to 32 off 14 in no time and all the early momentum SRH had gained was lost.
Tilak played the role of second fiddle to perfection even as Suryakumar kept going. In all, Suryakumar smashed Jansen for 32 runs off nine balls, including four fours and two sixes, to reach his fifty off 30 balls.
There were some worried faces in the MI dugout - and no doubt among those interested in India's fortunes in next month's T20 World Cup - when Suryakumar was seen limping a little, but the big hits didn't stop. A slower delivery from Bhuvneshwar was mowed over long-on before Shahbaz Ahmed was swept twice in the space of two balls. Suryakumar then raced from 82 to 96 in three balls, hitting 4, 4, 6 in the 17th over. And then, with six needed for victory and four for his century, he pulled back and went inside out over the covers of T Natarajan to finish the job.
It was Suryakumar's second IPL hundred and sixth in T20 cricket.
