Mohammed Siraj and Reece Topley used the new ball in the early stages, but this did not prevent Kishan from taking full advantage of the powerplay.
When Siraj delivered a ball that swung into his pads, Kishan hit it over square leg for six. Then, when Topley bowled one that moved away from him, Kishan hit it hard over point. Kishan had a nervous moment when he was on 12, as Topley found the edge of his bat, but the ball flew between the wicketkeeper and the first slip for four more.
Kishan repeated his feat of smashing a fifty in the powerplay for MI by continuing to deal in boundaries.
