Jadeja and Bumrah Spark Bangladesh Collapse

At lunch, Bangladesh had posted scores of 233 and 146 (Shadman 50, Bumrah 3-17, Jadeja 3-34, Ashwin 3-50), setting India a modest target of 95 runs for victory after India's declaration at 285 for 9.

Just a day after taking his 300th Test wicket, Ravindra Jadeja triggered a rapid collapse for Bangladesh in an extended morning session on the final day. With Bangladesh starting the day at 26 for 2, they were bowled out for 146, largely due to Jadeja, R Ashwin, and Jasprit Bumrah, each of whom picked up three wickets. Bangladesh’s hopes rested on a steady partnership of 55 between Najmul Hossain Shanto and Shadman Islam, but Jadeja's breakthrough dismissed Shanto, and India's bowlers quickly capitalised on the opening.

Jadeja struck immediately, removing Shanto with his second ball. Akash Deep then followed suit, sending Shadman back with a catch at gully. From 91 for 3, Bangladesh quickly slumped to 94 for 7 as Jadeja dismissed Litton Das and Shakib Al Hasan cheaply. There was no dramatic turn in the pitch, just consistent, disciplined bowling from Jadeja that built pressure on Bangladesh and led to their unravelling.

When play began, Ashwin struck early by dismissing Mominul Haque, whose sweeping attempt went straight to leg slip. Meanwhile, Shanto and Shadman managed to steady the innings briefly, collecting a few boundaries off Ashwin and Mohammed Siraj, the latter leaking runs in his early spell. Despite this, Bangladesh’s confidence began to falter as Jadeja entered the attack.

Shanto was the first to fall, bowled by Jadeja while attempting a reverse sweep. Shortly afterwards, Jadeja removed Litton with a delivery that bounced more than expected, catching the batter behind. Akash Deep then dismissed Shadman shortly after he reached his half-century, ending his 101-ball stay at the crease.

With Bangladesh reeling at 94 for 7, Bumrah returned and swiftly cleaned up the tail. Mehidy Hasan Miraz was caught out by a sharp delivery that edged to the slips. Mushfiqur Rahim managed to delay the inevitable, showing some resistance with a few well-placed shots, including back-to-back boundaries off Jadeja. But with partners dwindling, his efforts were in vain. Bumrah struck again, trapping Taijul Islam lbw just before lunch, leaving Bangladesh barely hanging on.

Despite Mushfiqur’s efforts to farm the strike and avoid disaster, India’s bowlers continued their relentless pursuit. A couple of reviews from India for lbw against Mushfiqur and Khaled Ahmed went unrewarded, with the ball shown to be going over the stumps. However, Bumrah's slower delivery eventually did the trick, bowling Mushfiqur just before lunch and ending Bangladesh’s innings at 146.

Now, with only 95 runs required for victory, India is well-positioned to finish the match and seal a comprehensive win.
