The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the 2024 T20 World Cup schedule. From 1 to 29 June, the flagship event will be played in the United States of America and the West Indies. The USA will host the first 16 matches. The remaining 41 matches will be played in the West Indies.
Canada, an associate member of the ICC since 1968, recently made history by qualifying for the 2023 T20 World Cup for the first time by winning the American qualifiers.
Saad Bin Zafar's side beat the Cayman Islands (twice), Panama, and Bermuda to finish top of the points table with four wins from six matches.
In the final match of the regional qualifiers, Canada beat Bermuda by 39 runs using the DLS method. They also finished with a better net run rate than Bermuda to secure their place in the ICC event. They will now be looking to cause an upset in the showpiece event.
The T20 event has been divided into four groups of five teams each. Before the semi-finals and final, the top two teams qualify for the Super 8.
For the uninitiated, Canada has been placed in Group A alongside India, Pakistan, Ireland and the hosts, the USA. They played Pakistan once among full members in 2008.
