Shubman Gill and B Sai Sudharsan tore apart Chennai Super Kings' (CSK) attack and record books to keep Gujarat Titans' (GT) play-off hopes alive. The result, however, damaged CSK's chances and left them with a tricky route to the play-offs.
Next up for CSK is a super-quick turnaround as they take on Rajasthan Royals (RR) at Chepauk on Sunday afternoon. They then face a resurgent Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in their final league match in Bengaluru on 18 May. The defeat to GT means that qualification for the play-offs could come down to net run-rate - though CSK still has the best NRR of the three teams with 12 points - and another defeat could leave the defending champions on the brink.
GT captain Gill spent some time off the field with cramps in their successful chase of 231. But he had already made a fine contribution with the bat in a 210-run partnership with Sudharsan - the highest opening stand in IPL history. In the process, Gill and Sudharsan took the IPL century total past 100.
