Former Sri Lanka Under-19 captain Dhammika Niroshana, aged 41, was tragically killed by an unidentified assailant outside his home in Ambalangoda, Sri Lanka. Sri Lankan Police have launched an investigation to locate and apprehend the shooter.
Niroshana, who is survived by his wife and two children, had a promising cricket career before retiring from all forms of the game in 2004. Known for his fast-bowling skills and occasional batting prowess, he debuted for Sri Lanka’s Under-19 team in 2000 and briefly captained the side in 2002.
Though he never made it to the senior national team, Niroshana played alongside future stars such as Angelo Mathews, Upul Tharanga, and Farveez Maharoof at the Under-19 level and in first-class cricket. He represented Chilaw Marians CC and later Galle CC during his career.
