David Johnson, a former Indian fast bowler known for his exceptional pace, has passed away at the age of 52.
Johnson earned his spot in the Indian national team thanks to his outstanding performances for Karnataka in domestic cricket. One of his most notable achievements was taking 10 wickets for 152 runs against Kerala in the 1995-96 Ranji Trophy season.
Johnson made his Test debut for India against Australia in Delhi in 1996. With Javagal Srinath sidelined due to injury, he partnered with his Karnataka teammate Venkatesh Prasad in the bowling attack. He later toured South Africa and played in the first Test match there. However, his Test career was brief, spanning only two matches where he managed to claim three wickets. Over his first-class career, Johnson accumulated 125 wickets in 39 matches, boasting an average of 28.63 and a strike rate of 47.4. Despite primarily being a lower-order batsman, he also scored a century in first-class cricket.
In the List A format, Johnson played 33 matches and took 41 wickets. His final appearance in competitive cricket was during the Karnataka Premier League in 2015.
