Evin Lewis Stars as West Indies Crush England in First ODI

West Indies took a commanding eight-wicket victory over England in the first ODI in Antigua, led by Evin Lewis’s explosive 94 off 69 balls. After England managed a modest 209, thanks to Gudakesh Motie’s 4-41, Lewis’s aggressive innings, featuring eight sixes, guided his team to an easy win with the DLS method.

England’s journey to restore their white-ball form looks challenging, as their inexperience in the 50-over format was evident. Lewis, returning to ODIs after a three-year gap, continued his impressive comeback following a recent century in Sri Lanka. His blitz on a tricky pitch left England’s bowlers struggling, and he reached his 2000th ODI run shortly before rain paused play.

Following the rain break, which reduced the target, Lewis’s assault resumed, although he fell short of his century after attempting another big hit with victory nearly secured. Brandon King provided steady support with a gritty 30, while Shai Hope and Keacy Carty wrapped up the chase with 24.1 overs remaining.

England’s batting woes began early, as Jayden Seales dismissed Phil Salt and Will Jacks, leaving them floundering at 46-2. With a flat start and failed attempts to clear the field, England’s top order fell to unnecessary risks. Livingstone (48) and Curran (37) briefly revived hope, but Motie’s disciplined bowling brought them undone, and England’s tail folded meekly.

England’s rebuilding journey in ODIs continues, but their lacklustre start and West Indies’ emphatic response underscore the tough road ahead.
