Charlie Cassell Sets Record with 7-Wicket Haul on ODI Debut

Scotland fast bowler Charlie Cassell set a new record for the best bowling figures on ODI debut by taking 7 for 21 in 5.4 overs against Oman in the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2 match held in Dundee.

Previously, the record was held by South Africa's Kagiso Rabada, who took 6 for 16 against Bangladesh in July 2015. Cassell was added to the Scotland squad on July 15 as a replacement for Chris Sole, who was unavailable due to personal reasons. Presenting Cassell with his cap before the game, Scotland captain Richie Berrington praised his resilience and recovery from a major injury that had sidelined him for over a year.

Cassell's debut was nothing short of sensational. He trapped Zeeshan Maqsood lbw and bowled Ayaan Khan with his first two deliveries. Although he missed a hat-trick, he had Khalid Kail caught with his fourth ball, and then dismissed Shoaib Khan in his second over, achieving remarkable figures of 1.3-1-0-4.

Cassell continued his outstanding performance by taking the wickets of Mehran Khan and Pratik Athavale, joining Rabada and West Indies' Fidel Edwards as the only bowlers to take six wickets on ODI debut. He then completed his record-breaking feat by having Bilal Khan caught behind, securing his seventh wicket.

Cassell's incredible 7 for 21 helped Scotland bowl out Oman for 91 in 21.4 overs, a target they chased down comfortably with eight wickets to spare and 196 balls remaining.
