Canada's men's senior cricket team achieved a historic victory by defeating Scotland, a highly favoured team, by seven wickets in their second match of the ICC Men's ODI World Cup League 2.
Although the UAE was ranked just above Canada in the latest ICC ODI rankings, Scotland is ranked 11th, just below the West Indies and ahead of Zimbabwe. It cannot be overstated how much this win could boost Canada's confidence, especially considering that Scotland is the highest-ranked team in the ICC CWC League 2.
Canada maintained the same formula that led to their win over UAE by making no changes to the playing XI. Captain Saad Bin Zafar won the toss again and chose to put the opposition into bat.
From the beginning, Canada played with discipline, consistently restricting the run flow. Whenever Scotland tried to force the run of play, a wicket fell. Although no single bowler dominated, all six made significant contributions to limit Scotland to 215/8.
Canada then chased down the target with ease, losing only three wickets and with almost 10 overs to spare. Pargat Singh's unbeaten 87 off 99 balls earned him the Player of the Match award. Harsh Thaker's six over deep midwicket was a fitting end to the match, capping a truly dominant display.
Canada aims to maintain its unbeaten record in League 2 when it faces the UAE once again on Tuesday in Dubai.
