The BCCI has allocated INR 1 crore for the treatment of former Indian cricketer Anshuman Gaekwad, who is currently battling blood cancer in a London medical facility.
This decision followed appeals from Kapil Dev and Sandeep Patil, who urged the board to assist Gaekwad.
The BCCI apex council released a statement indicating that Jay Shah directed the immediate release of funds to support Gaekwad. The statement also noted that Shah had spoken with Gaekwad's family to assess the situation and offer support, assuring them that the board stands by them during this challenging time and will take all necessary steps for Gaekwad's quick recovery.
The council emphasised that the BCCI would continue to monitor Gaekwad's health and was optimistic about his recovery.
Gaekwad, 71, played 40 Tests and 15 ODIs for India between 1975 and 1987, later serving as a selector and then as the coach of the national team.
