Bangladesh's fast bowler, Tanzim Hasan Sakib, has been penalised with one demerit point and fined 15 per cent of his match fee for infringing Level 1 of the ICC Code of Conduct. This occurred during Bangladesh's ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2024 Group D encounter against Nepal.
The incident unfolded on Sunday at the Arnos Vale Ground in Kingstown. In the third over of Nepal's innings, Tanzim bowled a delivery and then approached batter Rohit Paudel in a confrontational manner, making inappropriate physical contact. This marks Tanzim's first offence under the ICC regulations within the past 24 months.
Tanzim's actions were found to be in violation of Article 2.12 of the ICC Code of Conduct, which prohibits "inappropriate physical contact with a Player, Player Support Personnel, Umpire, Match Referee, or any other individual (including a spectator) during an International Match."
The charge was brought forward by the on-field umpires Ahsan Raza and Sam Nogajski, with assistance from third umpire Jayaraman Madanagopal and fourth umpire Kumar Dharmasena. Acknowledging his misconduct, Tanzim accepted the penalty proposed by match referee Richie Richardson, thereby eliminating the necessity for a formal disciplinary hearing.
