Recently, the USA made a notable entry into the cricketing world, surprising many with their impressive performance. In their debut at the T20 World Cup, which they co-hosted last month, the USA achieved a significant upset by defeating Pakistan in the group stage. The team also put up a strong fight against eventual champions India, creating tense moments and surpassing expectations by reaching the Super 8 stage of the tournament.
While the USA is making rapid progress in cricket, their neighbour Canada is not far behind. The country is hosting a new edition of the GT20 Canada league, which features some of the biggest names in cricket. This includes Australia's David Warner and Marcus Stoinis, Pakistan's Babar Azam and Shaheen Afridi, West Indies' Sunil Narine and Carlos Brathwaite, Bangladesh's Shakib Al Hasan, and Afghanistan's Mohammad Nabi and Naveen-ul-Haq.
Ahead of the new season, Moneycontrol spoke with Dav Whatmore, head coach of the Montreal Tigers, one of the six franchises in the league. The former coach of Bangladesh and Sri Lanka discussed the league's various aspects and its role in promoting cricket in associate nations and across North America.
