USA win big with Monank and Gous back in the running

USA's top three batsmen - Steven Taylor, Andries Gous, and captain Monank Patel - all scored half-centuries as the team chased down 230 all out, paving the way for a comfortable 31-run win in Prairie View.

USA started strongly after being put in to bat, with openers Taylor and Monank putting on 104 in 8.3 overs. Taylor initially played the more aggressive foil, hitting seven fours and three sixes in his 25-ball 54 before he was dismissed by Parveen Kumar. USA did not falter, however, as Gous and Monank hit back-to-back fifties. Monank struck 10 fours and two sixes in his 35-ball 68, while Gous' 35-ball 57 featured three fours and four sixes. The carnage did not stop there as Aaron Jones provided a late flourish, smashing four sixes in a 20-ball 34 to take the total past the 200-mark. Canada used seven different bowlers, five of whom took 11 overs or more.

In reply, Canada lost opener Srimantha Wijeyeratne for a first-ball duck, but Aaron Johnson and Pargat Singh led a recovery with a 95-run partnership. Canada had a glimmer of hope at 112 for 1 in 11 overs, but both Johnson (74) and Pargat (27) were dismissed in quick succession to give the USA a firm advantage. Several other batsmen made quick starts - including Harsh Thaker's unbeaten 34 - but USA were never really threatened as Canada was eventually bowled out for 199.

Seven different USA bowlers were involved in the wickets, with Saurabh Netravalkar, Shadley van Schalkwyk and Harmeet Singh taking two scalps each.
