Head, who last competed in the IPL for RCB in 2016, will play for SRH in 2024 under Cummins.
In the Sunrisers Hyderabad home in Hyderabad, Travis Head, the hero of Australia in the ODI World Cup final in Ahmedabad, has reconnected with his teammates and the coaching staff in anticipation of "a successful season and a lot of good times".
"I am feeling good. Good to be back. Yeah, looking forward to a good season. The team looks good. I'm looking forward to meeting everyone and hopefully, I can contribute some runs," he stated in a video released by Sunrisers. "I have heard amazing things about the Orange Army. Looking forward to playing in front of everyone."
Head only played for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League in 2016 and 2017. Throughout the two seasons, he scored 205 runs at a strike percentage of 138.51 in ten games.
Australian cricketers have a nice relationship with Sunrisers. Under David Warner's direction, they defeated RCB, who at the time had Head in their ranks, in the championship match of 2016. That was their lone championship victory. Warner, who is currently playing for the Delhi Capitals, still has 6397 runs, which is third most in IPL history behind only Virat Kohli (7263) and Shikhar Dhawan (6617). And their ODI World Cup-winning captain, Pat Cummins, will be leading them this year.
"I guess win as many games as we possibly can, try and contribute somewhat to that cause, and yeah, hopefully, have a successful season and a lot of good times," Head noted of his expectations. "Can't wait to play in front of the crowd. Hopefully [we make] the IPL final and hopefully we see the sunglasses [referring to the celebrations after the 2023 ODI World Cup win]."
