Gujarat Titans 231 for 3 beat Chennai Super Kings 196 for 8 by 35 runs.
Gill and Sudharsan are not Travishek. They are more orthodox top-order batsmen. But on a bouncy, red-surface Ahmedabad pitch on Friday, they showed they can be just as destructive with the bat.
It was Gill who set the tone early, hitting left-arm fingerspinner Mitchell Santner for four and six in a 14-run opening over. Then, in the final over of the powerplay, Gill played arguably the shot of the day. When Simarjeet Singh bowled an immaculate back-of-a-length delivery at off, Gill used his gifts to make it look like a bad ball and smashed it over mid-on for a six.
Sudharsan, becalmed in the early exchanges, then caught fire, hitting Ravindra Jadeja for 21 off seven balls at a strike rate of 300. The presence of the spin-hitting Sudharsan meant that Jadeja could bowl no more than two overs on the night. Ruturaj Gaikwad turned to Daryl Mitchell's cutters but was dismissed for 4-0-52-0.
Sudharsan picked up the pace to share the same score with his captain at the end of the 16th over: 96 off 48 balls. Gill was the first to bring up his hundred with a four and four balls later Sudharsan joined him for a six.
