With Powell absent and no reliable batter to hand the strike over to, Buttler demonstrated his prowess. He hit a six down the ground on the first ball of Starc's final over, before swivel-pulling him around the corner for four later in the over. Bowling five wides soon after, Starc did himself no favours.
Then, with 28 runs needed off 12 balls, Buttler smashed three sixes and a four off the next seven balls, never losing strike. With the requirement reduced to three runs off five balls, he patiently waited for the right moment. He collected two runs off the penultimate ball and then pierced a packed infield with a leg-side clip on the last ball to secure RR's sixth win of the season. This victory could be considered their most hard-earned one.
