Until the 19th over of the chase, Rajasthan Royals' highest asking rate in a 202 chase was 10.88, which came at the end of the first over. And yet Sunrisers Hyderabad won by one run. Pat Cummins bowled a superb 19th over and Bhuvneshwar Kumar successfully defended 12 in the final over, despite the over-rate penalty leaving them with one less boundary rider.
Down to the last ball, RR remained favourites, needing two to win, but Rovman Powell missed a calf-high full toss and was lbw. It was Bhuvneshwar who got their reply off to a great start, removing Jos Buttler and Sanju Samson in the first over, but Yashasvi Jaiswal and Riyan Parag made chasing them look easy with their fifties. When Jaiswal fell, they needed 67 from 39 and when Parag departed, they needed 43 from 25. Shimron Hetmyer and Powell looked to be cruising, then two hits went straight to the fielders and Cummins swooped in.
It was SRH's fifth score of 200 or more in this IPL, but they took the scenic route to get there after opting to bat. By all accounts, it was a decision based on their usual chasing record rather than the conditions. They had to start on a sluggish track that improved as the evening wore on. In fact, they scored 153 in their final 12 overs. In the 18 overs of the RR chase, the first eight overs seemed to have cost SRH the match, who now sit in the top four on the points table.
