Mohammed Siraj and Umran Malik will miss the first round of the upcoming Duleep Trophy as both players are sidelined by illness and are not expected to recover in time for the tournament's start, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on Tuesday, August 27.
Additionally, Ravindra Jadeja has been released from Team B's squad, though the BCCI did not disclose the reason for his release.
Navdeep Saini has been named as Siraj’s replacement in the Team B squad, while Gaurav Yadav will take Malik’s spot in Team C. The participation of Nitish Reddy, also a member of Team B, is still uncertain due to fitness concerns. Nitish, who was recently included in India’s squad for the Zimbabwe series, had to be replaced after suffering from a sports hernia.
The Duleep Trophy is set to begin on September 5, with Team A facing Team B at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru and Team C playing against Team D at the Rural Development Trust Stadium in Anantapur. The teams will be captained by Shubman Gill (Team A), Abhimanyu Easwaran (Team B), Ruturaj Gaikwad (Team C), and Shreyas Iyer (Team D).
