Scotland has announced its squad for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2024, with star all-rounder Kathryn Bryce returning as captain. Bryce, who last represented Scotland during the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Qualifier in May 2024, played a pivotal role in helping her team secure their first-ever World Cup berth. Her impressive contributions included 177 runs and nine wickets, leading Scotland to qualify alongside Sri Lanka.
The squad also features her sister, Sarah Bryce, who will serve as the vice-captain and wicket-keeper-batter. Experienced leg-spinner Abtaha Maqsood, who recently guided Scotland to victory in the Netherlands tri-series, is another key player on the roster.
Scotland’s squad comprises a blend of talent, with players like Priyanaz Chatterji, Katherine Fraser, and Megan McColl, who are capable of making significant contributions with both bat and ball. Head coach Craig Wallace expressed confidence in the team’s potential, noting that the balance and depth of the squad are remarkable. He highlighted that the evolution of the team during his tenure has led to match-winners throughout the lineup, contributing consistently in every game.
Wallace reflected on the tough but rewarding process of selecting the squad, pointing out that the team’s recent performance in the Netherlands series, where they won five out of six games, demonstrates the depth of talent. He mentioned that even those not selected had shown impressive performances, making the final selection challenging but positive.
Scotland has been placed in Group B alongside England, South Africa, West Indies, and Bangladesh. Wallace remains optimistic about the team’s prospects, stating that if they maintain their current form, they could achieve remarkable success at the World Cup. He highlighted the squad's belief in their abilities, suggesting that the possibilities are limitless.
Wallace also expressed his pride in helping the team qualify for the World Cup, calling it the most significant achievement of his career. He admitted to being more excited and nervous about the tournament than he ever was as a player, underscoring the importance of this historic moment for the team and himself.
