Scotland has called up right-arm fast bowler Charlie Cassell and medium pacer Jasper Davidson for their first-ever bilateral men's T20I series against Australia, set to take place in Edinburgh this September. The squad is otherwise made up of the 15 players who participated in the men's T20 World Cup in June, with Richie Berrington continuing as captain.
Cassell made a remarkable debut in international cricket, taking 7 for 21—setting a new record for the best ODI figures on debut—against Oman in the Cricket World Cup League 2 in July. He has since played two ODIs for Scotland and recently featured in three One-Day Cup matches for Somerset.
Davidson, who also debuted in the CWC League 2 against Oman, took four wickets in his first match.
Scotland head coach Doug Watson remarked that after their impressive performances in CWCL2, it would be invaluable for Cassell and Davidson to experience playing against a top team like Australia in front of a large crowd. Watson views the series as an exciting opportunity for the Scottish players to test themselves against world-class competition and aims to win the series. He stressed the importance of winning the first game to set the tone for the remaining matches, adding that the entire week would be an incredible experience for the squad, staff, supporters, and all of Scotland.
This series marks Australia's first tour of Scotland in 11 years, coming just three months after their close T20 World Cup 2024 encounter in St Lucia, where Australia edged out Scotland by five wickets. The matches will take place at The Grange on September 4, 6, and 7.
