Record Prize Announced for 2024 Women's T20 World Cup

The champions of the 2024 Women's T20 World Cup, starting on October 3 in the UAE, will take home a prize of USD 2.34 million. This figure marks a staggering 134% increase compared to the USD 1 million that Australia received after winning the 2023 edition.

The total prize pool for the 2024 tournament stands at USD 7.95 million, a substantial 225% jump from the USD 2.45 million available in 2023, as revealed by the ICC. For the first time, the ICC has ensured that women will receive equal prize money to men for their respective T20 World Cup events—a decision made back in June 2023.

Earlier this year, India, the winners of the 2024 Men's T20 World Cup, were awarded USD 2.45 million. The slight difference between the men's and women's prize money—USD 2.45 million for the men and USD 2.34 million for the women—results from the different number of matches in the two tournaments. The men's event features 20 teams, while the women's competition involves 10.

The runners-up of the 2024 Women's T20 World Cup are set to receive USD 1.17 million, a sharp rise from the USD 500,000 awarded to last year’s finalists, South Africa. Teams knocked out in the semi-finals will earn USD 675,000, a significant increase from the USD 210,000 given in 2023. Furthermore, every team participating in the tournament is guaranteed a minimum of USD 112,500.

Schedule Changes for October 5 Matches:

The ICC has also made adjustments to the schedule for matches on October 5 in Sharjah. Initially, the afternoon game was set for Bangladesh versus England, and Australia was to face Sri Lanka in the evening. However, the revised schedule now has Australia and Sri Lanka playing in the afternoon slot, while England will take on Bangladesh in the evening.

The 2024 Women's T20 World Cup kicks off in Sharjah on October 3, with Bangladesh facing Scotland at 1400 local time, followed by Pakistan’s clash against Sri Lanka at 1800.
