Hampshire's County Championship match against Essex at the Utilita Bowl was completely washed out due to persistent rain, mizzle, and drizzle, preventing any play on the opening day.
The covers remained in place throughout the day, untouched except by the rain, before the umpires officially called off play at 15:40 BST.
Both teams were left disappointed by the lack of action, especially with their sights set on chasing down Surrey at the top of the table.
While more rain is expected overnight, there is optimism that play may resume today.
