The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has appointed five cricket legends—Waqar Younis, Shoaib Malik, Misbah-ul-Haq, Sarfaraz Ahmed, and Saqlain Mushtaq—to mentor domestic and international players ahead of the 2025 Champions Trophy. These mentors will guide teams during the Champions One-Day Cup, featuring both top domestic players and centrally contracted national team members.
Following Pakistan’s first-ever Test loss to Bangladesh, the PCB is focusing on thorough preparations for the upcoming Champions Trophy, which will be hosted in Pakistan. PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi pointed out that the mentors will play a crucial role in strategic planning, team-building, and developing the next generation of cricketers.
The Champions One-Day Cup begins on September 12 at Faisalabad’s Iqbal Stadium, marking the return of One-Day cricket to the venue after over two years. Naqvi noted that the selection of these mentors was carefully made to bridge the gap between domestic and international cricket, leveraging their vast experience and passion for the game. Together, these mentors have accumulated over 32,000 runs and 1,500 wickets in international cricket.
