Pant, Jaiswal, and Jayasuriya Surge in ICC Rankings

Rishabh Pant has made a strong return to the ICC Test batting rankings at No. 6, while Yashasvi Jaiswal and Prabath Jayasuriya have also made significant climbs. In contrast, Rohit Sharma has dropped in the rankings following recent Test matches in Chennai and Galle. Meanwhile, Afghanistan's white-ball stars Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Rashid Khan have soared up the ODI charts, and Travis Head has also seen an upward movement.

Pant, playing his first Test in nearly two years after a serious car accident, scored 39 and a brilliant 109 off 128 balls in India’s 280-run victory over Bangladesh in Chennai. This performance propelled him to the sixth spot with 731 rating points. Jaiswal, who had previously occupied the sixth position, moved up to fifth after his score of 56 in India’s first innings, giving him a total of 751 points.

At the top of the rankings, Joe Root remains firmly in first place with 899 points, followed by Kane Williamson with 852 points despite New Zealand's 63-run loss in Galle. Daryl Mitchell (760 points) and Steven Smith (757 points) retained their positions just ahead of Jaiswal. Rohit Sharma, however, slipped significantly after scoring 6 and 5 in Chennai, falling from No. 5 to No. 10, only four points ahead of Babar Azam at No. 11.

Virat Kohli also saw a decline, dropping five spots to 12th following his scores of 6 and 17, while Shubman Gill climbed five places to 14th after his unbeaten 119 in the second innings against Bangladesh.

Prabath Jayasuriya was the standout in the bowling rankings, moving up five positions to No. 8 after his match-winning figures of 4 for 136 and 5 for 68 in Galle. In the bowling rankings, R Ashwin remains No. 1 after his 6 for 88 in Chennai, followed by Jasprit Bumrah at No. 2. They are joined by Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins, Kagiso Rabada, and Ravindra Jadeja, with Nathan Lyon at No. 7.

Elsewhere, Kamindu Mendis climbed three spots to 16th among Test batters after his century against New Zealand.

Gurbaz and Head Climb ODI Batters' Rankings

Rahmanullah Gurbaz of Afghanistan made history as the first player from his country to break into the top ten of the ICC ODI batters' rankings. After scoring 105 and 89 in Afghanistan's 2-1 series win over South Africa, he jumped ten spots to reach eighth place.

Travis Head also made a significant leap, moving up seven places to No. 9 after his unbeaten 154 against England in the first ODI, where he also took 2 for 34.

In the same Afghanistan vs South Africa series, Rashid Khan was instrumental, taking seven wickets in Afghanistan’s two wins. This performance vaulted him eight places up the bowlers' rankings to No. 3, just behind Keshav Maharaj and Adam Zampa.
