Josie Dooley suffered a stroke while on holiday in the USA. The cricketer spent 30 days in hospital before flying home. Dooley is still undergoing treatment in Australia.
Fresh information has emerged following Australian cricket player Josie Dooley's unwinding Hawaiian vacation, which took a dramatic turn when she suffered a stroke and needed to stay in the hospital for thirty days.
Dooley, 24, who plays state cricket for South Australia and the WBBL for the Melbourne Renegades, needed emergency neurosurgery care in the US before being allowed to return home.
Hydrocephalus, a disorder in which an excessive amount of cerebrospinal fluid accumulates inside the brain's ventricles, is the cause of the grave medical event.
In a statement issued on Monday, the South Australian Cricket Association described Dooley's condition and stated that she is still receiving medical attention.
“On 15 April Josie was on the Hawaiian island of Kauai when she suffered a stroke as a result of hydrocephalus and was required to be airlifted to Honolulu to receive urgent neurosurgical treatment,” the statement read. “Following surgery, Josie remained in the neurosciences ICU of the Queen's Hospital in Honolulu for 18 days before progressing to a neurosurgical ward where she remained for a further 12 days. Once she was fit to fly, Josie was medically evacuated to her hometown of Brisbane where she was readmitted to hospital.”
Josie would like to thank her family, friends, and teammates for their love and support during this difficult time. She is making progress in her recuperation.

Before joining the Renegades in 2019–20, the gifted keeper–batter was a member of the Brisbane Heat.
Dooley has participated in over 74 Women's BBL games. She has made 847 runs at a strike rate of 107.08 and an economy rate of 20.17. She has also taken 31 catches and completed 13 stumpings.
On Monday, The Renegades also released a statement regarding the situation.
“Like many in the Australian cricket community, the Melbourne Renegades are thinking of our beloved team member, Josie Dooley, as she faces her current health battle,” the Renegades noted. “Josie is a much-loved member of our playing group and a favourite with our fans.
