Mohammad Nabi to Retire from ODIs After Champions Trophy

Afghan allrounder Mohammad Nabi is preparing to bid farewell to One Day International (ODI) cricket following the upcoming Champions Trophy, according to Afghanistan Cricket Board CEO Naseeb Khan.

Confirming Nabi’s decision, Khan mentioned that the cricketer had expressed his desire to conclude his ODI career after the Champions Trophy. Khan added that Nabi’s plan is to continue playing T20 cricket beyond the tournament.

Nabi has been a prominent figure in Afghanistan’s cricket history, having played in their first ODI in 2009, where he made an impressive debut with a half-century against Scotland. Over his 165 ODIs, Nabi has accumulated 3,549 runs at an average of 27.30 and claimed 171 wickets, proving his skill as a dependable allrounder.

In the opening match of the current ODI series against Bangladesh in Sharjah, Nabi scored an impressive 82 runs, contributing significantly to Afghanistan’s total, which was successfully defended with Allah Ghazanfar taking six wickets.

Nabi had previously retired from Test cricket in 2019, signalling the gradual winding down of his storied international career.
