Matthew Wade Receives Reprimand and Demerit Point for Breaching ICC Code of Conduct

Australia's wicketkeeper, Matthew Wade, has received an official reprimand along with a demerit point for committing a Level 1 violation of the ICC Code of Conduct during the match against England in Barbados on Saturday. This incident marks Wade's first offence within a 24-month period.

According to the ICC, Wade was found guilty of violating Article 2.8 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel. This article pertains to "displaying dissent towards an umpire's decision during an international match."

The incident in question occurred during the 18th over of the game. Cricbuzz's ball-by-ball commentary provided a detailed account:

“17.3 Adil Rashid to Wade, no run, what just transpired? Wade attempts to pull out of the shot, and steps outside the leg-stump, but places his bat in line with the ball and defends it back. Despite Wade’s disbelief, umpire Nitin Menon does not call it a dead ball, sticking to his decision and marking it as a dot ball. If Wade had left it, it could have been declared a dead ball.”

The charge was brought by on-field umpires Nitin Menon and Joel Wilson, third umpire Asif Yaqoob, and fourth umpire Jayaraman Madangopal. Wade acknowledged his breach of conduct and accepted the penalty proposed by Andy Pycroft from the ICC Elite Panel of Match Referees. Consequently, no formal hearing was required.
