Mitchell Marsh has assured he is prepared to bowl as much as required against India in the upcoming Brisbane Test, expressing confidence in his physical condition. Reflecting on his recovery, Marsh highlighted that his back “feels as good as it has felt” following careful management by Australia’s coaching and medical staff.
Marsh has faced challenges with back stiffness since a white-ball tour of the UK in September, where his bowling was limited to a single ODI at Lord's. This followed a hamstring injury during the IPL in April, which disrupted his return to bowling in the domestic Sheffield Shield. Despite these setbacks, he delivered 17 overs and claimed two wickets during the Perth Test opener, but subsequently experienced soreness. Concerns over his fitness led to Beau Webster being considered as cover for the Adelaide Test, although Marsh ultimately played, bowling sparingly.
Marsh expressed gratitude for the team’s support, which allowed him to focus on recovery between Tests. He emphasised his readiness to contribute in Brisbane, even in a limited role, noting that all-rounders in Australia have traditionally bowled fewer overs.
The Gabba has seen minimal use of allrounders, with Marsh and teammates collectively bowling 23 overs during an earlier Test against the West Indies.
Additionally, Marsh shared a light-hearted moment from Adelaide, recalling a mistaken walk for an edge against R. Ashwin, only for replays to show no contact. Reflecting on the incident, he admitted, “I thought I hit it… but I didn’t,” drawing laughter from teammates post-match.
